Meet Abrahem

I was born and raised in Jinka, the gateway town to Ethiopia's Omo Valley. Growing up at the crossroads of some of Africa's most ancient cultures, I spent my childhood surrounded by the tribes that visitors now travel thousands of miles to meet. The Mursi, Hamar, Karo, Dassanech – these aren't just names on an itinerary to me. They're neighbours, friends, and communities I've known my entire life.

For over a decade, I've been guiding travellers into this extraordinary corner of Ethiopia. What started as a passion for sharing my homeland has become a calling. I don't just show visitors the Omo Valley – I open doors that would otherwise remain closed, introducing guests to families I've visited for years and communities that trust me to bring respectful, curious travellers into their world.

Whether we're navigating dusty roads by 4x4, sitting with village elders, or timing our visit perfectly to witness a bull-jumping ceremony, my local connections and experience make all the difference. I know this valley like the back of my hand – because it's home.

You might notice I wear a turtle shell pendant around my neck. It's a personal symbol of my connection to the valley and its traditions – and a reminder of why I do what I do.

This isn't just work for me. It's my life. And I can't wait to share it with you.

Tourism that Gives Back

The Omo Valley is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth – but it's also one of the most vulnerable. As tourism grows, we believe it should benefit the communities who call this valley home, not just pass through.

EthiOmo was founded with a simple belief: that travel can be a force for good.

We're just getting started, but here's what we're working toward:

  • Fair wages – Every guide, driver, and local partner is paid fairly for their work

  • Community fees – Entry fees go directly to the villages you visit

  • Respectful tourism – We prepare guests to visit with cultural sensitivity

  • Future giving – As EthiOmo grows, we'll direct a portion of profits toward local schools, health projects, and community needs

We're not there yet – but every booking brings us closer.

When you book with EthiOmo, you're not just hiring a guide. You're supporting a local business, built by someone who grew up here and wants to see his community thrive.

"I've travelled to over 40 countries, and the Omo Valley with Abreham is up there with the very best. The highlight was spending a night with the Karo tribe – sleeping in the village, sunset over the Omo River, waking up surrounded by their body painting traditions. You won't get that with anyone else. Don't hesitate – book with him."
